VOCABULARY #7

1.       Cursory-(Adjective) Hasty and therefore not thorough or detailed: A cursory glance att the figures.
2.       Impetus-(Noun) The force or energy with which a body moves: Hit the booster coil before the flywheel loses all its impetus.
3.       Pinnacle-(Noun) The most successful point; the culmination: He had reached the pinnacle of his career.
4.       Contumely-(Noun) Insolent or insulting language or treatment: The church should not be exposed to gossip and contumely.
5.       Bereavement-(Verb) be deprived of a loved one through a profound absence, esp. due to the loved one’s death: The year after they had been bereaved.
6.       Cache-(Noun) a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place: An arms cache.
7.       Consummation-(Noun) the point at which something is complete or finalized: The consummation of a sale.
8.       Calamity-(Noun) An event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster: The fire was the latest calamity to strike the area.
9.       Ubiquitous-(Adjective) Present, appearing, or found everywhere: His ubiquitous influence was felt by all the family.
10.   Fortitude-(Noun) Courage in pain or adversity: She endured her illness with f=great fortitude.
11.   Nonchalant-(Adjective) Feeling or appearing casually calm and relaxed; not displaying anxiety, interest, or enthusiasm.
12.   Affect-(Verb) Make a difference: The dampness began to affect me health.
13.   Effect-(Noun) A change that is a result or consequence of an action or other cause: The lethal effects of hard drugs are bad.
14.   Misappropriate-(Verb) Dishonestly or unfairly take for one’s own use: Department officials has misappropriate funds.
15.   Pragmatic-(Adjective) Dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretically consideration: A pragmatic approach to politics.
16.   Metacognition-(Noun) Awareness and understanding of one’s own thought process: While sitting on my desk metacognition struck me and I answered the question correctly.
17.   Devoutly-(Adjective) Having or showing deep religious feeling or commitment: She was a devout catholic.
18.   Avarice-(Noun) Extreme greed for wealth or material gain: A lot of rich people have avarice.
19.   Fortify-(Verb) Strengthen with defensive works so as to protect it against attack: The whole town as heavily fortified.
20.   Erratic-(Adjective) Not even or regular in pattern or movement; unpredictable: Her breathing was erratic.
